Sara Evans

Sara Evans has come a long way from her humble beginnings in rural New Franklin, MO to one of the most acclaimed performers in all of country music. Evans was born on February 5, 1971 and her mother soon discovered that Sara had a terrific singing voice at a very young age. Before long, Sara and her two brothers had begun performing in a band helping their parents earning $50 per night. When Sara was 16 she started performing at a local night club not far from the campus of the University of Missouri.

Evans moved to Nashville in 1991 where soon met another musician from Oregon named Craig Schelske, the man who she married and then divorced in 2006. Schelske played in a band with his two brothers but decided to move back to Oregon a year later. Evans moved to Oregon with Schelske, but ultimately went back to Nashville in 1995 to record some demos. Later that same year, songwriter Harlan Howard was captivated by Evans’ performance of “I’ve Got a Tiger by the Tail” and vowed to help her make it to the big stage in Nashville. Howard knew Evans was the perfect artist for his music, stating, “I have been looking for you for years to sing my music. You’re great!”

In 1997 Evans released her first album titled Three Chords and the Truth, the retro twang record was hailed by music critics but made virtually no impact in album sales. Evans then gave modern contemporary a whirl and laded a #1 hit with “No Place That Far” and then hit #1 again with her third album track “Restless”in 2003.
